Green Initiatives
Lougheed Town Centre is more than just a place to shop. It is a landmark within the city of Burnaby and the Tri-Cities area and a valuable contributor to the growth and improvement of our community.
The management and staff of Lougheed Town Centre strive to create a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible shopping experience for our residents and guests. And our achievement of Environmental Certification, under the BOMA BEST program, is testimony to our commitment to sustainability.
We’ve taken steps to decrease Lougheed Town Centre’s environmental footprint by focusing on: Energy & Water Conservation, Waste Reduction & Recycling, Transportation Alternatives, and Sustainable Purchasing.
It is our goal to reduce our energy consumption by 10% over the next 5 years and 15% over the next 10 years. We’ve already taken steps towards this goal by changing to more efficient lighting options and upgrading many of our building systems to more efficient alternatives.
Lougheed Town Centre also has an aggressive waste diversion target of 50% and a water reduction target of 5% over the next 5 years and 10% over the next 10 years. In an effort to reach these goals, we’ve instituted strict construction waste policies and we’ve continued to investigate and implement new recycling opportunities for the Centre.
